This bulletin provides recommendations to help ensure that cut labels don't stick to the transfer belt unit during the printing process and then describes how to remove label media stuck to a transfer belt. The printer documentation recommends that only full-page (uncut) label stock be used in the printer. However, some cut label stock has been tested and approved for use in this printer (refer to printer.konicaminolta.com/support and click on Answer Base). When using cut label stock, observe the following precautions to help ensure that the labels don't peel off the backing sheet and stick to the transfer belt during the printing process: • Do not use cut label sheets from which one or more labels have already been removed. The heat from the fuser loosens the adhesive, which increases the probability that the remaining labels will peel off the backing sheet if the sheet is reused. • Do not use old label stock. The adhesive may not be strong enough to hold the cut labels to the backing sheet during the printing process. • Make sure that the label stock is not warm. The adhesive on label stock that has been stored in direct sunlight, near a heat source, or in a warm place may not be strong enough to hold the cut labels to the backing sheet during the printing process. If labels do peel off the backing sheet and stick to the transfer belt, use the following procedure to safely remove them from the transfer belt unit. Corrective Action: 1. Turn off and unplug the printer. 2. Remove the transfer belt unit from the printer. a. Open the printer's front door. b. Remove the waste toner box. c. Rotate the transfer belt unit lever clockwise to the 11:00 position. d. Remove the OPC drum. e. Remove the transfer belt unit (two thumbscrews). 3. Apply a small amount of Goo Gone citrus-based cleaner to the stuck media, allow it to sit for a minute or so, and then, using a soft cloth, carefully rub the stuck label media to remove it from the belt. Repeat until all of the stuck media has been removed from the transfer belt unit. CAUTION: Goo Gone is available in many hardware stores. Be sure to use the citrus-based version, NOT the petroleum-based version, which will harm the transfer belt unit. Don't let the Goo Gone drip inside the transfer belt unit. Allow the belt's surface to dry completely before rotating the belt to remove more stuck media or before reinstalling the transfer belt unit in the printer. 4. Reinstall the transfer belt unit, OPC drum, and waste toner box, close the front door, and then plug the printer in again.
