When Black Pages, 59.xx Errors, or 13.xx Errors Occur

Troubleshooting Some internal parts for the HP LaserJet 2400 family printers are very labor intensive to replace; therefore it is recommended to first troubleshoot for failure of these parts and then do a unit exchange as the repair method. It is recommended that the following parts go through a unit exchange instead of a replacement:

HVPS - RM1-1505-000CN

Main Motor - RL1-0587-000CN

Feed Guide Assembly - RM1-1504-000CN

Perform the appropriate troubleshooting for the issue that presents to determine which part should be exchanged.

Black pages are printing

Typically, when the printer output consists of black pages, this indicates a high-voltage power supply (HVPS) failure. Perform the following to troubleshoot the issue:
Reseat the print cartridge.

Visually check the formatter-DC controller (ECU flat ribbon cable connection to the formatter to ensure it is properly connected.

Visually check the connections to the print cartridge to ensure they are intact.

NOTE: The connections are located on the left-hand side of the printer, when looking inside the printer with the print cartridge removed.

Check the connections (during printing) between the print cartridge and the grounding clip using a voltage meter that can measure up to 750 Volts. The reading should be -600V ? 120V.

NOTE: Measure between the grounding clip (callout 1) and chassis ground (somewhere on the sheet metal, callout 2),

Complete the unit exchange.

Error 59.xx is displayed on the control panel

An error 59.xx displayed on the control panel typically indicates a main motor failure. When this occurs, perform the following troubleshooting steps:

Turn the printer on and then off (power-cycle) again.
Reconnect the main-motor wire-harness on the ECU.

Measure the supply voltage to the main motor (-24VDC) via a connection on the ECU.

NOTE: Locate the connection in the picture below and measure across the red and black wires.

Remove the formatter, then replace with a known good ECU or a new ECU and invoke a print engine test. If this does not work, put the original ECU and formatter back in the unit. The ECU is still "clean".

Inspect the gear assembly for obvious defects/contamination or broken teeth.
Complete the unit exchange.

Error 13.05, 13.06, or Accordion Paper jams occur just before or in the fuser

When a 13.05 or 1306 paper jam and/or an accordion jam occurs just before or in the fuser, this typically indicates a feed guide assembly failure. If this situation occurs, perform the following troubleshooting to verify the issue:

Check the three fuser cable connections at the rear of the printer.
Replace the fuser.
Replace the fuser motor.
Complete the unit exchange.
