Upon power-up the printer will count memory and then start Calibration. Calibration will be ongoing and eventually printer will quit but a message Performing Calibration will be displayed on the control panel. To troubleshoot this issue start with bypassing calibration at power-up. Perform the following: Turn the printer on and watch the control panel display. When the display begins showing the memory count, press and hold (down arrow) until all three lights on the control panel are lit. Press (up arrow). Press MENU. The display should show SKIP DISK LOAD. Press (up arrow) until SKIP CALIBRATION is highlighted. Press (select button). The printer will skip calibration and then continue it power-on sequence. When the printer comes to a READY state, enter the DIAGNOSTICS menu. Select COMPONENT TEST Scroll down and select BLACK LASER SCANNER. Press the check mark button to execute test. Test should run approximately 10 seconds in a good working printer. If the printer is not functioning correctly the laser scanner may not run, or it may run for approximately 5 seconds and abort. Continue testing other laser scanners, CYAN, MAGENTA, YELLOW. If scanners fail, the problem could be related to the laser scanner assembly, laser scanner cable, DC controller. When dispatching service, advise the technician to remove the top cover of printer and examine the scanner cable from the scanner assembly to the DC controller. This cable is connected at J1022 on the DC Controller. If cable is pinched under top cover you will encounter this symptom of the printer hanging at calibration. With your right thumb, press and hold the lever on the right side handle then lift the handle up, followed by the left side to remove the unit. NOTE: Reassembly note: When reinstalling the transfer unit, align the two pins on the left side of the door with the two holes in the left side of the transfer unit. Print cartridge removal Open the front door. Grasp the blue handle of a cartridge and pull it slightly upward and out to remove it. NOTE: When performing any servicing inside the printer, all four print cartridges should be removed. Do not touch the surface of the print cartridge drum. The cartridges have flaps that close when the front door is opened to protect the print drum. However, if the flaps do not close, flip them down to cover the exposed area of the print drum. Right Cover Removal Open the rear output bin and the upper rear door. Remove three screws (callout 1 in figure below). Pull down and out on the bottom edge of the cover (callout 2 in figure below) to release two claws, then pull out on the front edge (callout 3 below) to release the additional claws and remove the cover (callout 4 below).
