The printer contains two fans. Fan 1 exhausts heat around the formatter and low power supply unit. Fan 2 exhausts heat around the fuser and print cartridges. A 57.3 error indicates a fan 1 failure. A 57.4 error indicates a fan 2 failure. Verify which 57 error is being reported and troubleshoot accordingly. 57.3 Fan failure The printer detected that the cartridge fan was not rotating. This fan operates off +24Vdc and is enabled by the DC controller PCB. Turn the printer off and on. Visually check to see if the fan is rotating (if you cannot see any rotation, place your hand over the outlet vents to see if exhaust air is moving). This fan does not run while the printer is idle. It runs only during printing and shortly after. Power cycling the printer to see if the error clears is about the only troubleshooting available to the agent. 57.4 Fan failure The printer detected that the formatter fan was not rotating. This fan operates off +24Vdc and is enabled by the DC controller PCB. Turn the printer off and on to reset the printer. Visually check to see if the fan is rotating (if you cannot see any rotation, place your hand over the outlet vents to see if exhaust air is moving). 57.3 Fan failure Remove the printer's top cover. Check to see if anything is preventing the fan from rotating freely. Verify that the fan's connector is firmly seated into connector J104 on the DC controller. Replace fan 2. If the error does not clear, replace the DC Controller 57.4 Fan failure Remove the printer's top cover. Check to see if anything is preventing the fan from rotating freely. Verify that the fan's connector is firmly seated into connector J103 on the DC Controller PCB. Verify that the fan's connector is firmly seated into connector J103 on the DC Controller PCB. Replace fan 1. If the error does not clear, replace the DC Controller © 2005 Hewlett-Packard
