These instructions are to be used to replace the Cleaning Roller Solenoid and Sub Relay PCA for Full Page ghosting if the white stopper arm, e-clip, bushing and stopper arm spring have been verified to be functioning correctly. If either the Cleaning Roller Solenoid or Sub Relay PCA fails the cleaning roller will not engage the Transfer Drum. This results in full page ghosting as the leftover toner on the Transfer Drum is not getting cleaned off. Replacement of sub-relay PCA and cleaning roller solenoid The inner front cover assembly needs to be removed to access the sub-relay PCA. See Figure 1. Figure 1: The inner front cover1 - Left inside panel 2-Clear plastic door 3-Waste toner access
NOTE: Remove the toner overflow tray before removing the inner front cover. When removing and reinstalling the inner front cover, leave the fuser door and the clear plastic door (Figure 1, call-out 2) open, or the Control Panel will show an "open toner door" error message. The cleaning roller solenoid plugs into the sub-relay PCA. The solenoid is held in place by one screw. See Figure 2 for location of the solenoid connector and screw. Figure 2: The location of the connector and the screw for the solenoid
Replace the solenoid and sub-relay PCA together. Test the printer after reassembly to verify there are no print quality defects. NOTE: Before testing the printer, remove the cleaning roller and gently wipe off the bronze bushing that the end of the cleaning roller fits into. Excess toner here can cause an uneven bias to be applied to the cleaning roller. This can cause print quality defects. © 2005 Hewlett-Packard
