The ETB Cleaning Cycles in the CLJ5500/5550 have changed to reduce the risk for the following two defects: ETB Streaks Cleaning Blade Streaks Normally an ETB Cleaning cycle is performed at the following times: After every job printed from Tray 1, while Tray 1 is set to Any Paper Size / Any Paper Type After every 90 pages of printing After every Calibration Cycle After opening and closing the top cover Checking Printer The ETB cleaning cycles for every job printed from Tray 1 in the Any Paper Size/Any Paper Type mode have been eliminated to help with the ETB Streaks and Cleaning Blade Streaks defects. Accidental - If the orientation of the paper does not match the default orientation while using tray 1 set to any-any (ex. using letter size paper in Short edge feed or Letter Rotated and trying to print the configuration page) toner will be transferred to and stay on the ETB and then be deposited on the back side of subsequent long edge fed sheets. The default orientation is long edge feed. Intentional - If a customer purposely prints off the page, i.e. to print edge-edge on a slightly smaller paper size, then toner will be put on the ETB and this will show up on the backside of the next page(s). To accommodate these customers a switch has been implemented in the Control Panel menu that will turn the cleaning cycles after a job from Tray 1 back on. This option can be found under by going to CONFIGURE DEVICE PRINT QUALITY OPTIMIZE TRAY 1 The default setting is AUTO 1 (which means no cleaning cycles are performed). By setting this mode to AUTO 2 the cleaning cycles are turned on again. NOTE: The only time a customer should be instructed to use the AUTO 2 setting is with the Intentional case.
