This document explains how to use the embedded Web server (EWS) to learn what firmware upgrade files are available for downloading and to perform a firmware upgrade. An Internet connection is required to upgrade the HP Jetdirect firmware using this method. The embedded Web server will connect to an HP web site where the firmware files are located. However, you may also click here to download firmware image files to use with the embbeded Web server. NOTE: The Jetdirect firmware must be greater than x.24.00 to have this feature available. Obtaining upgrade information and downloading a file The EWS provides a link to a page on the HP Web site that lists the download files that are available. The EWS page lists the model number and firmware version of the HP Jetdirect card. The appropriate firmware file can be selected using this information. If the wrong file is chosen, the HP Jetdirect card rejects the file as invalid. Open the EWS by typing the IP address of the HP Jetdirect print server in a Web browser. Use the form "https://<IP address>". Click Other Settings and then click Firmware Upgrade. The model number of the HP Jetdirect card is displayed along with the firmware version that is currently installed on that HP Jetdirect card. Click the HP Jetdirect Firmware Updates link to be taken to the HP Web site that lists the currently available firmware images for HP Jetdirect products. NOTE: The browser requires access to the Internet to view this page. Download the appropriate firmware file to the computer. Right-click the .DLD file name on the Web site and click Save Target as or Save as. Be sure to save it as a .DLD file by selecting All files for Save as type. (The browser might default to save it as a text file.) Upgrading firmware Open the EWS by typing the IP address of the HP Jetdirect print server in a Web browser. Use the form "https://<IP address>". Click the Networking tab. Click Other Settings and then click Firmware Upgrade. Figure 1: Firmware Upgrade tab 
Click the Browse button to find and select the firmware upgrade file. Click Upgrade Firmware.When the upgrade has completed, the following message appears. Figure 2: Completed firmware upgrade 
NOTE: When the firmware update is completed, the HP Jetdirect card automatically restarts. As a result, the Web browser might appear stalled until the HP Jetdirect card is back on the network.
