Setup OKI printers to work under the software package "DAVE". DAVE (http://www.thursby.com) is a software solution that enables Macintosh users to participate in Microsoft networks with both file and print sharing services. DAVE is installed on the Macintosh and requires no additional software to be installed on the PCs other than that which comes standard with the operating system offerings from Microsoft. DAVE also supports many third party SMB offerings such as the latest version of SAMBA running on UNIX platforms. DAVE allows for sharing of PostScript printers on a Microsoft network to Mac's. To correctly install a PostScript printer that is being shared from a Microsoft Network follow the steps below: Before proceeding ensure that the printer is shared from the PC's, and is printing properly. 1. Open the Chooser 2. Click on the Dave Client icon
3. Double click on the PC that the printer is shared from (In the example above the printer is named imac9400 and is shared from the 2KSERVER) 4. Scroll down to the shared printer and click on it, then click on OK
5. A window will pop-up that asks if you want to Allow Binary Printing, leave this box UN-Checked and click on Continue
6. The desktop printer icon will now appear on the Mac's Desktop 7. Highlight the desktop printer icon and click on Printing from the File menu, then click on Change Setup...
8. In the window that appears change the PPD from Generic to the appropriate printer PPD 9. Select the appropriate Installable Options for the printer
10. Click on OK The printer is now setup properly. IMPORTANT NOTE : In order to print correctly through DAVE to ANY OKI printer, after following the steps above the Encoding must be changed within the application from Binary (MacOS Default) to ASCII (Windows Default). The encoding needs to be changed due to the fact that the printjobs are now being sent via TCP/IP which only supports ASCII. This can generally be done from the Print Options or the Print Dialogue box. ©2005 Oki Data Americas, Inc.
