Removing and Cleaning Tray 1 and Tray 2 Pickup Rollers

Tray 1 Pickup Roller:

1. Open the Manual Feed Tray.

2. Spread the pickup-roller locks (see callout 1 in the photo that follows) on each side of the tray 1 pickup roller to release the roller.

3. Rotate the top of the roller off of the shaft, and then lift the roller out of the device.

Tray 2 Pickup Roller:

NOTE: Also follow these instructions to remove any optional-tray pickup rollers.

1. Tip the device over on its rear side, with the bottom of the device facing you.

2. Rotate the bushings (see callout 1 in the photo that follows) on each side of the roller downward.

3. Remove the left-side bushing by sliding the bushing to the left.

4. Slide the roller and shaft toward the left until they clear the hole in the right-side bushing, and then lift the right end of the shaft.

5. Slide the roller and shaft toward the right, and then lift the roller and shaft together out of the device.

Cleaning the Pickup Roller:

To clean the rollers, rather than replacing the pickup roller, complete the following steps:

1. Remove the pickup roller as described in the previous procedures.

2. Dab a lint-free cloth in water and scrub the roller.

3. Using a dry, lint-free cloth, wipe the pickup roller to remove loosened dirt.

4. Allow the pickup roller to dry completely before reinstalling it in the printer.
