When attempting to print from a Windows application to an HP LaserJet printer, the jobs do not print from the selected printer, or they do not print at all. This issue can occur when trying to print from Microsoft (R) Office applications, but can happen from any Windows application. 1. When attempting to print from Microsoft Excel, the printer does not appear in the list of available printers, even though the driver is correctly installed. 2. When trying to print from Microsoft Outlook, the application allows the printer to be selected in the printer drop-down list, but print jobs are completed by the default printer instead. 3. Various users attempt to set a specific printer as their default machine. The printer appears to be set as the default, but when a print job is sent, the job is printed by the printer that was previously set as the default. During the printer driver install, the printer name was modified from the default and contained a space at the end of the printer name. Changing the printer name did not cause the issue; rather, the extra space at the end of the printer name was the problem. Delete the printer driver and reinstall it without the extra space in the printer name to resolve the issue. This issue has also been seen with Microsoft's drivers. NOTE: This issue can occur with any printer driver, including Microsoft's own uni-drivers. © 2005 Hewlett-Packard
