HP Color LaserJet 3500, 3550, 3700, 4600, 4650, 5500, and 5550 Series Printers What is Color Plane Registration (CPR)? Color Plane Registration is a process that occurs during a full calibration to align the four different color planes in such a way that they lay on top of each other. The Color Plane Registration alignment process uses a moving average. The reset procedure below forces the printer to discard its old values and use the newest calibration only. How does CPR work? When the Color Plane Registration gets way out of line it sometimes cannot be corrected with regular Calibration cycles. When this happens, it is necessary to reset the Color Plane Registration data to get the registration back in line. This reset can be done through the following procedure: Make sure the engine is in Ready state (not in Powersave). Open the top front door. Press the engine test switch for three seconds (located in left-side cover hole). Close the top front door. Immediately turn the print off and back on. This procedure will reset the Color Plane Registration data and the Color Plane Registration should be back in line after this procedure. In rare occasions, it is sometimes necessary to follow this procedure with an additional Full Calibrate Now. © 2005 Hewlett-Packard
