Tray 2 Cassette will not open. The tray is stuck inside the printer.

SOLUTION:

  1. Open the front door and release the cover for the paper pick up assembly (green tabs).

  2. With the cover open, check the black plastic teeth that are part of the pickup assembly to see if they are binding with the top of the tray (gray).

  3. Push down on the top of the tray and attempt to push toward front of printer to get the tray to release and open.

Possible Causes for this issue:

  • To prevent this from occurring, ensure the printer is positioned on a sturdy, flat, level surface.
  • When pushing the tray into the printer, the lift plate ends on the tray can ride out of the guide slot on the printer, causing the lift plate not to lift.

A more recent cause that has been seen is the tray 2 pickup roller in the pickup assembly has fallen out of place. This causes the shaft that the housing sits on to bend and/or twist in the assembly catching the pickup roller on the tray lift plate. Replace the paper pickup assembly if the bar is twisted or bent.

NOTE: If the bar is bent, it is possible to remove the shaft and straighten it if there is no part available. However, this should only be attempted if there is no other alternative.
