The Late Breaking Readme file contains information about known issues that have been discovered. Issues with drivers, associated productivity tools, print jobs, and hardware; variations in operating systems; and interactions with other software programs have been documented here. Issue: After inserting the HP Color LaserJet 2600n software CD into the CD-ROM drive the message "SETUP is not available in Windows 98 and Me…" appears on the computer screen.
NOTE: The HP Color LaserJet 2600n is not supported in Windows 98 versions prior to Windows 98 Second Edition (SE). Solution: The HP Color LaserJet 2600n software must be installed via Windows Plug-and-Play or Add Printer in Microsoft Windows 98 SE and Microsoft Windows Me. The Setup.exe program found on the root of the HP Color LaserJet 2600n CD is not supported in Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) or Windows Me. The Setup.exe program is supported only in Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, and Microsoft Windows Server 2003. Follow the steps below to perform a plug-n-play installation: Power on the printer and the computer. Verify the printer displays Ready. Attach the USB cable to the printer and computer. When the Add New Hardware Wizard appears, click Next to install the USB Printing Support. Select the option Search for the best driver for your device in the dialog that appears and then click Next. Make sure the HP Color LaserJet 2600n CD is in the CD-ROM drive, select Specify a Location, browse to the CD-ROM drive, and select the language and driver folder. For example, <CD-ROM drive:<Language>Driver. Choose OK, and then click Next. You should see the path and file name in the USB Printing Support dialog for Microsoft Windows 98 SE. This step may not apply for Microsoft Windows Me. Click Finish once the files are copied. Steps 4 through 8 will repeat to install the print driver. File names will change. At step 8, you have the option to rename the printer. Click Finish. After files have installed, click Finish to close the dialog. Issue: When sharing the HP Color LaserJet 2600n printer via Windows File and Print sharing, those printing from the client workstations (not directly connected to the printer) may not be able to print from Microsoft Word 2003 and Adobe Acrobat versions 5 and 6. The computer acting as the print server (directly connected to the printer) does not exhibit this issue. Workaround: On the client PC’s (not directly connected to the printer) delete the printer driver from the Printers folder or Printers and Faxes folder. Next, perform an "Add Printer" installation of the HP Color LaserJet 2600n from the Printers or Printers and Faxes folder. During the Add Printer installation of the driver select the shared printer port; i.e. server_nameprinter_name. Issue: In Windows 2003 Server, when installing via plug-n-play (a.k.a. hardware first), and pointing the New Hardware Wizard to the root of the CD, a message appears indicating "The location you specified does not exist or cannot be reached." Workaround: Run Setup.exe from the root of the HP Color LaserJet 2600n software CD instead of performing a plug-and-play installation. HP Color LaserJet 2600n Toolbox Issue: Users may be unable to open the HP Color LaserJet 2600n User Guide and Readme files found within the HP Color LaserJet 2600n Toolbox Documentation tab. This can occur on Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed and in Microsoft Windows 98 SE and Microsoft Windows Me.
Workaround: Use an alternate method to open the HP Color LaserJet 2600n User Guide and Readme files. Microsoft Windows XP, SP2 Click Start, Programs or All Programs from the Microsoft Windows desktop. Select HP from the list of programs on the Start Menu. Click HP Color LaserJet 2600n, and then choose either the User Guide or Readme icons to open the desired file. Microsoft Windows 98SE and Microsoft Windows Me Place the HP Color LaserJet 2600n CD into the CD-ROM drive. Using Windows Explorer find the CD-ROM drive where the HP Color LaserJet 2600n CD is located and browse to the following path: <CD-ROM Drive><language>manuals. For example, if the the CD-ROM drive was E: and the language was English the path would be E:Englishmanuals. You can choose to open the User Guide in .pdf or .chm format, and the Readme in .html format. The files are listed as follows: Guide.chm (best format for viewing) Guide.pdf (best format for printing) Readme.html NOTE: This method also works in Microsoft Windows XP, 2000, and Server 2003. Issue: After selecting the Device Settings button in the HP Color LaserJet 2600n Toolbox, while using Netscape 6.23, a new window opens, but all the information does not fully load. Solution: Update Netscape to version 7.1. Issue: When the Display Contrast is changed in the Device Settings or Embedded Web Server (System Setup > Display Contrast) the display does not change, even though the Control Panel menu indicates that the change was made. Workaround: The display will change to the desired setting if the printer is power cycled. Issue: When printing from an application in Mac OS X v10.2 and 10.3 "Tray 3" is grayed out in the Source is drop-down list. This can occur if the optional 250-sheet tray 3 is added to the printer after the installation of the HP Color LaserJet 2600n software. Solution: Attach the optional 250-sheet tray 3 to the printer. Close all open applications. Delete the HP Color LaserJet 2600n from the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility. Using Print Center or the Printer Setup UtilityAdd the HP Color LaserJet 2600n printer. Tray 3 should now be selectable within the Source is drop-down menu. Issue: When printing multiple copies of a multiple page .PDF file, and selecting collate, from Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Reader 5.0 or 6.0, the print job does not come out collated. For example, 3 copies of a 3 page document should print as follows if collate was selected and functioning properly: Page 1,2,3, Page 1,2,3, Page 1,2,3 instead the document prints Page 1,1,1; Page 2,2,2; Page 3,3,3. Solution: There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Reader 5.0 and 6.0 that does not allow the print jobs to collate. Update Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader to version 7.0.
