The purpose of this document is to assist in the identification and resolution of 13.5 and 13.6 error messages that appear on the HP LaserJet 4000 and 4050 series printer display. These errors indicate that a paper delay occurred or that the paper stopped at the fuser. The page did not reach or clear the fuser sensor in time. Exchange the print cartridge with a known working cartridge if possible. Reseat the fuser, replacing if damaged. Trip or toggle the paper path flags and sensors, replacing if damaged. Inspect the transfer roller, replacing it if damaged. Inspect the paper feed assembly, replacing it if damaged. Inspect the registration assembly, replacing it if damaged. Inspect the delivery drive assembly, replacing it if damaged. Inspect the output assembly, replacing it if damaged. Replace the fuser (maintenance) if page count is near 200,000 pages. WARNING: To avoid burns, let the fuser cool at least 15 minutes before disassembly. Tripping or toggling the paper path flags and sensors Inspect and trip or toggle the paper path flags and sensors (PS102, PS103, PS106, and PS501), replacing related assemblies if non-functional. Determining if fuser (maintenance) page count is near 200,000 pages If a configuration page has not been successfully printed, use the service mode to access that information: Hold down the SELECT key and the CANCEL JOB key while turning on the printer. Release the keys when all of the lights on the control panel are lit. Press the right side of the MENU key. Press the SELECT button. The message SERVICE MODE should appear in the printer display. Press the MENU key until the message SERVICE MENU appears in the printer display. Press the right side of the Item key until PAGES = (the page count) appears in the printer display.
