Error: " 241 Paper Jam - Check Tray 1 " |
- As soon as you receive the 241 Paper Jam error message, press and hold the Return button.
- While holding down the Return button, press the Select button. Two lines of numbers will appear on the printer screen. These are the secondary codes.
- If the top line of the secondary code is 8E XX 06 X1 (where X can be any letter or number), the problem could be with the pick motor for tray 1. This will probably result in the printer needing service.
You should also check the type of media you are using. Are you printing on regular plain bond copy paper? If not, try printing again with plain copy paper. Certain specialty papers - letterhead stock, label stock, and card stock - can promote jamming. Testing the printer with plain paper will eliminate special media as part of the cause of the jamming. Even if this special paper has worked fine in the past, please test the printer with plain copy paper before arranging to have the printer serviced. For more information on the media specifications for this printer, refer to the User's Guide or to the Card Stock and Label Guide. Both of these manuals can be found online here.
- If you continue to receive the jamming error after checking all of these possibilities, the printer may require service.
You may also receive this error when printing from tray 2 or tray 3. - If you have additional paper trays installed and the jamming occurs in one of them, one of the optional trays may not be seated properly. Power off the printer and reseat all of the paper tray options on top of each other. (For details on how to do this, click here.)
- If the error continues to occur, you can follow the same checks as listed above for tray 1, but apply these steps to the paper tray that is jamming. For instance, if you are printing from tray 2 when the error occurs, check the paper tray and feed rollers for tray 2.
