A 13.03.00 error message is displayed on the control panel of the HP LaserJet 9000 or 9000mfp series product, along with the message Jam inside right door. Upon opening the right door, a piece of paper is discovered in the Paper Input Unit (PIU) area as shown in the figure below. Figure 1: Piece of paper stuck in PIU 1-Stuck paper
The product Service Manual recommends replacing the PIU, then the Tray 1 pickup rollers and Tray 1 itself. This is not entirely correct. Background information: Paper stops in the location shown in the figure above due to the feed rollers in the PIU not turning. These feed rollers, while part of the PIU, get their drive from the pre-registration roller via the pre-registration clutch which is located on the registration assembly. See the figure below for location of these rollers. Figure 2: PIU feed rollers 1-Feed rollers on PIU
If a printer posts a 13.03.00 Jam Inside Right Door error on the control panel of the printer, and paper is found in the PIU area, dispatch a technician with the part listed in the parts table below. Registration assembly RG5-5663-000CN Technician repair and replacement instructions Prior to replacing the part, a simple check of the registration assembly needs to be made to ensure that replacing it is actually needed. Check DC controller connection J215, verify that it is properly seated. Remove the registration assembly and check to make sure the pre-registration clutch is plugged in (see figure below). Figure 3: Registration assembly 1-Registration clutch
If the clutch is not plugged in, reconnect the clutch and reinstall the registration assembly, and test for functionality. If the pre-registration clutch is plugged in, then replace the registration assembly.
NOTE: Be sure to send the unused part back to HP. Verifying successful repair Retest the printer from all trays to verify it now prints successfully without any errors. © 2005 Hewlett-Packard
