The HP Color LaserJet 4600, 4650, and 5500 series printer allows a job to be stored in the printer’s memory for printing at a later time. This is referred to as the job retention feature. NOTE: To use job retention, a hard disk drive must be installed in the printer and the printer driver must be properly configured. Also, HP recommends installing additional memory to support job retention features for complex jobs. Storing a print job It is possible to download a print job to the printer’s hard disk without printing it. The job can then be printed at any time through the printer control panel. For example, personnel forms, calendars, time sheets, or accounting forms can be downloaded so that others can access and print them. To store a print job permanently on the hard disk, select the Stored Job option in the printer driver when printing the job. Quick copying a job The quick copy feature prints the requested number of copies and stores a copy on the printer’s hard disk. Additional copies can be printed later. This feature can be turned on or off from the printer driver. Proofing and holding a job The proof and hold feature provides a quick and easy way to print and proof one copy of a job and then print additional copies. To store a print job permanently on the hard disk, select the Stored Job option in the printer driver when printing the job. CAUTION: Make sure to uniquely identify jobs in the printer driver before printing. Using default names may override previous jobs with the same default name or cause the job to be deleted. The default number of jobs that can be stored is 32. It is possible to change the number of jobs that can be stored from the control panel. If the printer is turned off, all stored jobs are deleted.
