Paper feed jam, where the paper constantly jams under the image drums, just before the fuser. Probable cause is a broken right blue transfer belt latch. Replace the defective latch using the shortcut method as described below. This procedure is somewhat difficult to perform, but can save a great deal of time in repairing the printer, if the right transfer belt latch is broken. Follow the procedure carefully, and it will only take 15-30 minutes to complete. Tools needed for this operation: Magnet / Magnetic Flat Screwdriver (telescopic if available) 8.5 – 9 inch metal pick with one end 90 degrees (scriber) Small pair needle nose pliers Good lighting (Flashlight Recommended) Items to be removed: Tension spring E washer (E-Clip) Lock Latch (Order Part # 42263003) Removing the Transfer Belt Lock Latch: Use extreme caution when removing or installing the lock latch as not to snap the black tab that’s below the shaft which the latch pivots on, when locking the transfer belt into position. If this tab is broken the whole mechanism has to be replaced, which would mean disassembling the unit.

Locate the broken blue transfer belt lock tab. 2. Remove the tension on the back side of the latch. Insert the 90 degree end of the pick into one of the windings of the tension spring on the underside of the lock latch, press down on the spring until it clears the small tab on the underside of the lock latch, continue to press down while pivoting the pick, to clear the spring from the lock latch, this will keep the spring from falling into the unit and allow removal of the spring.

Using the 90 degree pick turn the E-clip until the open end faces upward, then with the magnet or magnetic screwdriver in your other hand place the magnet on the closed end of the E washer, and while the magnetic is touching the E-clip press down on the E-clip with the 90 degree pick until it clears the shaft and is attached to the magnetic. Remove the E-clip. 4. Remove the latch from the frame. Place the flat screwdriver on the inside of the lock latch, pushing the latch away from the shaft, pushing the metal shaft the latch rides on, to the left, then work the latch back and forth until it is free of the shaft. Remove the latch. CAUTION: Be careful not to break the black tab that helps hold the latch in place. Installing the Replacement Transfer Belt Lock Latch: 1. Install the new latch. Align the flat surface of the shaft with the flat surface (notch) inside of the lock latch. 2. Carefully place the lower opening of the latch onto the small black tab below the shaft, with the flat surface of the shaft facing upward and the flat surface inside of the latch facing downward gently put the larger opening on the shaft. 3. On the left side of the frame, insert a flat blade screwdriver to help move the metal shaft to the right and through the new right latch. Continue to work the new lock latch until you can move it along the shaft enough to expose the notch in the shaft for the e-washer.

Attach the closed end of the E-clip to the holder on the end of the E-Clip tool, or attach the closed end of the E-clip to a magnetic flat tip screw driver, with the open end of the E-clip facing downward. Press down on the E-clip until it clicks into place on the notch in the metal shaft.

5. Reinsert the tension spring that was removed first from the back side of the broken latch. Put the 90 degree end of the pick into the tension spring about half way down the length of the spring, place one of the spring’s open ends on the small black tab under the latch, pivot the latch back and forth, while pressing downward until the other opening clears the tab under the latch, align the spring to the tab on the latch, then release the spring. This completes the process. Re-install the consumables and test the unit.
