The single-sheet manual feed slot on the HP LaserJet 1160 and 1320 series printers work best when the media used is stiff enough to push the registration assembly out of the way. If the media is not stiff enough, then it becomes difficult to properly insert it and prevent feed problems, causing issues such as mis-picks, mis-feeds, etcetera. Registration Bar Linkage Kit Q5927-67901 A linkage has been designed which connects the single-sheet manual feed slot to the registration assembly. When the door is opened, the registration assembly anti-skew shutter is automatically moved out of the way and it becomes very easy to insert normal and light-weight media into the manual feed slot. Repair and replacement instructions The Registration Bar Linkage Kit has two parts: the push pull rod consisting of the upper tine (a t-shaped bar), the lower tine), and a stub; and a mylar tether. Figure 1: Push-Pull Rod
1 - Upper Tine (T-shaped bar) 2 - Lower Tine 3 - Stub Complete the following to attach the two parts contained in the Registration Bar Linkage Kit (Q5927-67901): Attach the mylar tether to the push-pull rod. Maneuver the t-shaped bar on the push-pull rod through the slot in the mylar tether. Figure 2: Mylar Tether and Forward-End Fork
Open the print cartridge door. Remove the toner cartridge. Position the rod such that the fork on the forward end straddles the sheet metal, the bottom tine of the fork (see figure 2 above) is inside the tunnel (see figure 3 below), and the top tine is above the sheet metal. Figure 3: Tunnel
Install the push-pull rod, forward-end first. Figure 4: Push-Pull Rod Installation
Close the print cartridge door and open the single-sheet manual feed slot door. Note the position of the stub (see figure 2 above) on the rear end of the push-pull rod with respect to the door hinge. Figure 5: Stub and Hinge Arm
Hold the single-sheet manual feed slot door half closed to a position where the stub can be moved leftward and in front on the door hinge. Remove the adhesive backing on the mylar tether. Figure 6: Adhesive Backing
Attach the forward end of the mylar tether to the anti-skewer shutter, aligning with matching features on the plastic over-mold. Figure 7: Mylar Alignment
Exercise the single-sheet manual feed slot door to ensure proper movement. When the door is fully opened, the tether should be pulled taut by the push-pull rod. The anti-skew shutter should be pulled back toward the front of the printer. When the door to the operating position. Install the print cartridge and close the print cartridge door.
